Ultrasound
Ultrasound studies use high frequency sound waves to provide image information of various soft-tissue parts of the body including the abdomen, pelvic area, neck, legs, breasts, arteries and veins. It provides good diagnostic quality without radiation and involves minimal preparation.
Exam Preparation
ULTRASOUND: ABDOMINAL (gallbladder, pancreas or liver)
- Do not eat or drink 3 to 4 hours prior to your exam. You may drink water to take any necessary medications.
ULTRASOUND: OB AND PELVIC
- Begin to drink 32 ounces of water 1 hour prior to your exam. Eat normally. Do not empty your bladder.
- For OB ultrasound after 20 weeks, please drink only 8 ounces of water. Eat normally.
